The Steam Controller and iOS don’t work very well together just yet.

Even though Valve says the Steam Controller is built for “anything running Steam,” out of curiosity, I paired my Steam Controller review unit to my iPhone 16 Pro this afternoon. Most native iOS games I tried didn’t recognize the controller. When they did, there were problems, like not being able to move my Fortnite character at all.

I’ve pinged Valve and Apple to see if this situation might change. As expected, the controller worked with games streamed over the Steam Link app, though!

Update: Noted that the controller is designed for devices running Steam.

Here’s how Gabe Newell and Hideo Kojima ended up in the Musk v. Altman evidence.

Among the evidence released publicly, there’s this email exchange (Exhibit No.844) between Valve founder Gabe Newell and Elon Musk about, of all things, trying to get a SpaceX tour and OpenAI introduction for Hideo Kojima.

Musk also wrote that he’d lost confidence in OpenAI competing with Google/Deepmind, and decided to attempt that through Tesla instead,” while pumping up Neuralink’s progress. Newell has since launched his own BCI company, Starfish.

Screenshot of Musk email response to Newell: “Sure, it would be great to meet Hideo Kojima and he’s welcome to see the rocket factory. No problem to send him my email. Best person to talk 0 at Neuralink is Max Hodak (max@neuralink com), who is the de facto head of day to day operations. Shivon Zilis is also worth talking to (predictably at shivon@neuralink). We’ve made some pretty insane technical progress. This is highly confidential, but we’re now able to implant ~6000 electrodes in a monkey brain with decent signal/noise. Moreover, the electronics are compact enough to be flush with the skull and the only thing visible is the USB-C opening and slight surround. Very trippy. Just like Neuromancer. Regarding OpenAL my involvement is very limited at this point. I still provide some financial support and get verbal and email updates every few wecks from Sam Altman, but don’t spend time there. I lost confidence that OpenAl could muster the resources to serve as an effective counterweight to Google/Deepmind and decided to attempt that through Tesla instead. We have cash flow on the order of billions of dollars per year to build hardware that hopefully has atleast a dark horse chance to keep Google honest. Probably worth talking about at some point.”
Screenshot of Gabe Newell email to Musk: For a long time | thought neuromodulation (e: TMS) was weird, mainly because | had an unsophisticated understanding of a bunch of aspects of the brain. I’ve more or ess done a 180, and think there is a significant near-term consumer marke. Is this something | should bring up with the Neuralnk team? If so, anyone in particular | should chat with there? Hope you are well

“Roblox Reality will not be free.”

During Roblox’s quarterly earnings call on Thursday, CEO David Baszucki commented on the photorealistic upsampling tech he’d shared a demo of earlier this week:

“...I do want to highlight, we’re right on the edge, really, in the whole AI space of running real-time photoreal video models in 2K at 60 hertz. ...This will not be free. This will use cloud compute. We will have some kind of way of subscribing or paying for this.”

With Saros, Housemarque makes a case for doing next-gen games differently

‘Realism is not interesting to pursue,’ and other lessons from the PlayStation studio.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 just got a weird update 16 years after its release.

Nintendo added a new epilogue to the storybook. It doesn’t tie the game to the movie or add much to the story. It’s mostly just left players confused. If you don’t feel like firing up the game to unlock the new bit, you can watch it below.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer takes off on October 6th.

There’s an obvious joke here but I’ve used it about this game already. Twice. Anyway, the game looks great.

Resident Evil gets weaponized.

I know what you’re thinking, and yeah we probably don’t need another Resident Evil reboot. But the next film comes from Weapons director Zach Cregger, and its new trailer makes it look 1) extremely creepy and 2) like it’s pulling inspiration from the more recent entries in the survival horror franchise. I’m in.

Ukrainian police arrest three hackers for allegedly stealing over 610,000 Roblox accounts.

The group is accused of using stolen cookies to hijack accounts, targeting profiles with high amounts of in-game currency and items, according to a press release spotted by Bleeping Computer. The hackers allegedly earned around $225,000 after selling the accounts on a Russian website.

Heart Machine’s Metroid-style action game is launching today on Nintendo Switch 2.

Possessor(s) was a bit of a slow burn for me when I reviewed it last year, but I’m glad I stuck with it.

In addition to Switch 2, it’s also available on PC and PS5, and the game has received a permanent price drop on all platforms to $9.99.

Steam now lets you manage downloads on remote devices.

It’s part of a big update Valve released for Steam. The update also includes gamepad improvements like a “low battery level toast” and a battery indicator in the header while you’re using wireless controllers. The Steam Deck got a big update with many of these improvements, too.

Denuvo DRM reportedly “fully” bypassed or cracked.

The video game piracy community is claiming Denuvo’s anti-piracy software can now be cracked or bypassed on every title that uses it, as TechSpot and XDA report. Denuvo and 2K Games are reportedly pushing back already with a “14-day mandatory online check” for popular games like NBA 2K25 and 2K26.

Ayaneo is raising prices for most of its products due to the RAM shortage.

After suspending preorders for its $1,999 Next 2 handheld because the rising cost of storage made it too expensive to build, Ayaneo says it has been ”forced to increase prices across most product lines” as a result of the RAM shortage. It has also restocked several of its best selling handhelds including the Pocket DS, but in very limited quantities.

Dbrand has a better angle for turning the Switch 2 Joy-Cons into a gamepad.

Unlike the grip that Nintendo bundles with its latest console, Dbrand’s $19.95 Joy-Lock Controller Holder lets you adjust the angle of the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons using a ratcheting mechanism. You can also add a pair of beefier grips for an additional $19.95, and enhance the thumbsticks with a pair of stick-on textured caps for $9.95.

A GPU with more memory? In this economy?

Nvidia is launching a 12GB version of its RTX 5070 laptop GPU, to go along with the existing 8GB configuration. Nvidia’s blog post explains how this will actually help supply during the RAM shortage:

In order to maximize memory availability, we are releasing the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU 12GB configuration with 24Gb G7 memory. This gives our partners access to an additional pool of memory to complement the 16Gb G7 supply that currently ships with most GeForce GPUs. The 12GB configuration will exist alongside the current 8GB configuration, and allows our partners to bring a broader range of GeForce RTX 5070 laptops to consumers.

It’s a lovely morning in the village, and you are a chaotic robot.

Tiny Delivery is a cozy adventure game by indie developer Sinica that has big Untitled Goose Game vibes. Instead of an evil bird, you play a small robot courier “with a big job and questionable methods,” according to the Steam listing, with a release window set for Q3 - Q4 2026.

Valve tells IGN that it’s “hard at work” on the next Steam Deck.

There’s still no word on when it will be out, though. And with Valve still working on getting the Steam Controller out the door next week and shipping the Steam Frame and Steam Machine sometime this year, we could be waiting a while for a Steam Deck 2.

Lose the new Steam Controller? You can ring it like a phone.

Every controller should have this, right? With most pads, you’d be lucky to even vibrate them at a distance — but TIL that official Nintendo Switch 2 pads do this too.

Valve’s new Steam Controller is as good as I hoped

It’s not perfect, but I’m buying one anyway.

The Time Frog Color is a watch-sized Game Boy Color that plays tiny carts.

Instead of taking the easy route with an emulator, Chris Hackmann, the modder behind the excellent Frog Boy Color, created a watch-sized Game Boy Color using the handheld’s original CPU. It also plays games through custom tiny cartridges and features a tiny D-pad on the side along with other button controls.

Our first look at Alien: Isolation’s sequel.

In 2024 Creative Assembly announced a followup to the only game that has ever made me genuinely freeze in fear. A year and half later, yesterday’s “Alien day” (4/26, get it?) brought us a brief first look. We don’t see much, but it looks like this time we might be going planetside.
