The first developer beta launched today, and it adds some Siri AI updates, vertical tabs in Safari, an updated StandBy mode for slab iPhones that works similarly to the iPhone Duo, Reachability for the iPhone Duo, an updated Health app, and more. Check out 9to5Mac for a comprehensive list.

A banner in the app says the app will “retire” on January 30th, 2027, according to 9to5Mac. The banner also points users toward the updated app, which was released earlier this year.

Don’t get too excited yet; it’s running in a virtual machine, and trees and water in The Witcher 3 aren’t supposed to look like that! But SteamOS on Arm-based Macs is now a thing with surprisingly decent performance, ETA Prime demonstrates in this video. Here’s the GitHub page.

MacRumors says that the instructions for technicians are straightforward, but “the fact that Apple issued an internal memo suggests the issue is widespread enough to warrant official guidance.”

As part of the acquisition, which was disclosed under the EU’s Digital Markets Act, Apple will “make employment offers to and hire certain employees” at Ascend.io, a startup that specializes in agentic data engineering. An update on Ascend.io’s website says the startup is “winding down operations as we prepare for our next great adventure.”

The judge in Apple’s trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI has set a trial start date of July 19th, 2027, as reported by 9to5Mac.

The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display has a section in System Settings for Touch Display controls. Much of it is for toggling similar gestures to the trackpad: Mission Control, Show Apps, Show Desktop, etc. You can turn off touchscreen funcions entirely, but that’s buried in Accessibility settings.

Now that pixel-pushers, editors, musicians, and artists will have their fingers all over the new MacBook Pro’s screen, Apple has updated the listing for its $9 polishing cloth to include support for eradicating fingerprints from that PROLED XDR display.

You’re all focused on the new MacBook Pro’s touchscreen but here I am, pointing out that the open low-latency audio interconnect is still in the hype reels after all this time.
