Tangerine, a surprise hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, is finally hitting theaters on July 10th. The movie, shot using an iPhone 5S and the Filmic Pro app, received rave reviews after its debut in January. While there have been plenty of films shot using iPhones, Tangerine was the first to play at Sundance. While it probably won’t change filmmaking altogether, a successful run at the box office for Tangerine could lead to more indie projects filming with iPhones to cut down costs. Directed by Sean Baker, Tangerine will initially be released in New York and Los Angeles, followed by a wider rollout.
