You can finally buy a $12,000 model of the McLaren P1 hypercar

The McLaren P1 just went out of production, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still buy a new one — it’s just a little smaller. The company just announced a bunch of “stocking fillers” to commemorate the hybrid supercar’s 375-unit run, ranging from a 64th-scale model up to a hand-built 8th-scale example that runs “over £8,000.” Made by Amalgam, the flagship model features every detail imaginable, “down to the original hand-beaten asymmetric bodywork and creases in the fabric of the seats,” and you don’t need to come up with seven figures to own it. You do, however, still need to come up with a lot of money, relatively speaking — and you’ll probably have to wait a bit, seeing how it’s built to order.

Considering the sticker price of the P1, it’s likely that these 8th-scale units will be reserved for actual P1 owners. (“Finally, what do you buy the person who has everything? McLaren Automotive now has the answer, even for a McLaren P1 owner,” the press release reads.) For the rest of us, McLaren’s cheapest toy models start at “under £10,” which is probably the closest we’ll ever come to owning something with the McLaren name on it.
