This May, Motorola will be releasing its RAZR Maxx in Germany, making it one of the first European countries to receive the international Droid RAZR Maxx variant. German customers will also be getting a nice bonus: according to PR released last week, the Maxx will be shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. That marks a first for the company, which currently ships the Droid RAZR Maxx in the US with Gingerbread and asks customers to upgrade.

We confirmed with Motorola that 4.0 is indeed coming with the new phones, but apparently other countries won’t be getting the same treatment. In the UK, for example, it’ll be shipping with Android 2.3, with an upgrade coming sometime in the second quarter. Ice Cream Sandwich may be “ready for the German market” already, as we’re told, but we’re not sure where Motorola currently stands on the rest of its upgrade roadmap.
